The original elite phenotype, the Alpha Cut, is clone-only and predates any seed release. In 2017 Symbiotic Genetics released seed stock as Alpha Cut × Purple Punch F2, which was named variety of the year. Its breeding significance was solving a real tradeoff: purple expression had historically cost yield and flowering speed, and Purple Punch delivered the color without the penalty.

Its grape-candy terpene signature is now foundational to the modern dessert category — Purple Punch appears somewhere in the family tree of a large share of today's sweet strains, including Slurricane.
